Zordon is racist

I noticed that today during the Power Rangers Cyborg/Superhero presentation, and it reminded of this:

In the presentation, I noticed that the yellow one is Asian, and the black one is also Black.  I wonder if the producers noticed this as well.  At the very least this video shows they have a cyborg-y side to them.

  1. Watching the intro to Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers in class reminded me of the racial connotations of the show too. I'm sure the producers of the show were aware of what they were doing, as you would have to be when creating a show of this magnitude. It may be a coincidence or intentional, we'll probably never know, but MMPR was adapted from the Japanese series called The Super Sentai, in which all of the characters were Japanese. When bringing the show to the US and adapting it to appeal to a western audience, diverse and ethnic characters were introduced, and had to assume the role of one character or another. Who thinks they did it on purpose and who thinks it's just a coincidence?

  2. It was a complete accident. The original pilot did not feature such casting, and it DID turn out to be an accident. What WAS possibly intentional and most definitely funny was when they switched that around, and made the Red Ranger a native American. Oops!
